Chacon’s Three Sends Women’s Basketball to First Victory

Cougars topple Chico State in tightly-contested game.

Playing their third close game on the road against an NCAA Division II opponent in as many nights, Cal State San Marcos women's basketball got its first win on Sunday, as a Justine Chacon three pointer with 10 seconds left sent the Cougars to a 65-64 win over Chico State.
 
The game is officially recorded as an exhibition.
 
Chacon's game-winner brought her point total to a team-high 20 on the night; but it was point guard Sidney Dobner running the show, recording the first triple-double in program history with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.  Michel'La Logan added 12 points and a team-high 6 steals.
 
While the Cougars' front line had dominated the previous two contests, Gabriell Munsch and Danielle Cooper were largely held in check, combining for 14 points on the night.
 
CSUSM survived 27 turnovers by creating 26 of their own.
 
The game was tightly-contested throughout, featuring 16 ties and neither team leading by more than 5 points for all 40 minutes.
 
CSUSM will play another exhibition against Grand Canyon University this Thursday before going on the road to take on USD in a big local matchup on Friday.
