Cal State San Marcos men's & women's soccer swept the A.I.I. Conference Championship tournaments in Thomasville, Georgia last week, and the Cougars were rewarded with 10 selections to the 2011 All-Tournament Team.
5 CSUSM women and 5 men earned the honor, which was announced Monday.
On the women's side, the honorees include keeper Kaycee Gunion, who did not allow a goal in either match, and defender Nicole Luna, who did not start for most of the season only to come through big in the tournament. In the midfield, Lauren Misklevitz and Kaleigh Dodson earned spots on the team for their strong play, with each scoring a goal at the tournament. And up front, forward Shelby Bush had an excellent tournament and got the nod.
Misklevitz was also named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player on the women's side.
The men's side is headlined by forward Scott Rice, who scored twice in the tournament final after missing most of the season due to injury. Rise was named the men's Tournament MVP. Goalkeeper Kiki Castro played the game of his life in the huge tournament final win over Thomas. Jordan Shadeed and Richie Kaiser were strong as usual on the back line, and Jacob Kaiser was a force in the midfield. All earned spots on the Tournament Team.
Both teams will play their NAIA National Championship Opening Round games this Saturday.
