All-State Post Player Gabriell Munsch Commits to CSUSM

Becomes third All-State player to commit to Cougar women's basketball

San Joaquin Delta College post player Gabriell Munsch has signed her commitment to play basketball for Cal State San Marcos.

At 6'0”, Munsch was a two-year starter at Delta.  As a freshman in 2009-10, she was selected First Team All-Conference in the Big 8; then as a sophomore this season, Munsch averaged 13.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2 steals per game while shooting 47% from the field.  She recorded nine double-doubles, and along with repeating as a First Team All-Conference selection, she was named Second Team All-State for California.

Munsch is the third All-State commitment for Coach Sheri Jennum's CSUSM women's basketball team, joining fellow post player Danielle Cooper (3rd team) and point guard Sidney Dobner (2nd team).

“Gabby is one of the most fundamentally sound post players I've watched in a long time,” commented Coach Jennum.  “She has an array of solid moves in the low post, shoots 33% from 3-point range, and plays terrific post defense. “

A graduate of Lodi High School, Munsch was named San Joaquin Athletic Association (SJAA) MVP and Stockton Record First Team All-Area in her junior season at Lodi.  She received both honors again as a senior, as well as earning an SJAA/Tri-City Athletic League Challenge Scholarship and The United States Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award.  Munsch maintained a 4.146 high school GPA, and a 3.68 GPA at Delta College.

“We feel very excited and honored that Gabby chose to continue her career with us,” said Jennum.  “She was offered scholarships by several Division II schools.  Gabby will play a huge role for us next year in our quest to win the National Championship.”

Gabby is a Kinesiology major looking to go into coaching.  Her parents are Dale and Katie.  CSUSM women's basketball will begin its first season of competition this coming winter.
