Cal State San Marcos senior SS/P
Johnny Omahen has been drafted by the Florida Marlins, making him the first-ever CSUSM player selected in the Major League Baseball Draft.
Omahen was picked in the 35th round with the 1,063rd overall selection of the draft on Wednesday. The 6'0”, 190-pound righty was drafted as a pitcher, despite only throwing for the Cougars since late in his junior year. As a member of the starting rotation in 2011, Omahen went 7-1 with a 3.00 ERA, striking out 48 batters and walking 22 in 54.0 innings on the mound.
Omahen spent his entire four-year collegiate career at CSUSM after graduating from Granite Hills High School. The Cal State San Marcos baseball program completed its fifth season of competition this spring, posting a 34-19 record and winning the A.I.I. Conference Championship to advance to its first ever NAIA National Tournament.
