PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The Cal State San Marcos women's golf team finished 57 shots ahead of its nearest competitor in the Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) Coed Tournament at Talking Rock Golf Course. The Cougars' 45-over 909 handed CSUSM its first fall tournament victory in program history.
Four Cougars finished in the first top-four spots individually, led by tournament medalist
Stacey Rayo. Rayo finished with a final-round 70 (-2) to earn the individual title at +2 (218). Rayo was the only player in the 31-person field to record a round in red numbers.
Lisa Copeland finished 12 strokes behind Rayo in second place after posting +14 (230). Besides Rayo, Copeland was the only player in the field to shoot par or better in a single round. She shot even (72) in the first round on Sunday.
Vanessa Chap went 84-74-73 to finish a stroke back of Copeland at +14 (231).
Alyssa Waite's +18 (234) put her into a tie for fourth after she recovered from a first-round 84 to shoot 75-75.
Felicia Titus rounded out the tournament for CSUSM with a score of 244 (+28) in 12
th place.
The Cougars will host the CSUSM Fall Invite Oct. 15-16 at Twin Oaks Golf Club in San Marcos.
