SALT LAKE CITY – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team fell in its final game of the Westminster Fall Invite, 3-1, to Trinity Lutheran (Wash.) on Sunday afternoon at Dumke Field.
The Cougars gave up two first-half goals, but
Alex Brunsell cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 75
th minute. However, the Eagles tacked another on with less than a minute to play.
“Credit to Trinity – they are a good side,” said CSUSM head coach
Ron Pulvers. “We had to chase the game which took a lot of energy out of us.”
The Cougars fall to 1-5-3 overall, while Trinity moves to 9-6-1.
The Eagles scored both their goals off unfortunate deflections and went up 2-0 in the 38
th minute. Brunsell answered late in the second, scoring an unassisted goal inside the right post.
The Cougars pushed forward to try and get the equalizer before full-time, but Antonio Ramos was freed on a break-away to put the game away with 11 seconds remaining.
CSUSM will play its final six games at home to finish out the regular season, where the team is 1-0-1. The home stand gets underway on Wednesday against Marymount Palos Verdes (7-3-3).
