The #2 ranked Cal State San Marcos Softball team wasted no time in making a statement to the rest of the NAIA that they are hungry for a national championship, outhitting the Texas Wesleyan Rams 13-1 en route to a 10-0 blowout victory.

After going through the lineup once without a hit, the Cougars pounced in the fourth inning with 6 runs on 6 hits that easily put the game out of hand. In fact, just a single run would have been enough as starting pitcher Cortney Allen allowed just one hit—a two-out double in the first inning— which was all that stood between Allen's second perfect game of the season. Allen, the A.I.I. Pitcher of the Year, improved to 21-4 with the victory.

Nonetheless, it was a brilliant afternoon for the new look Cougars, who showed off a brand new lineup due to the injury to shortstop Sarah Quimbao. Taking the place of Quimbao was Erin Miller, a former infielder who has played in the outfield every game this season. Regular right fielder Kaitlin McGinley was shifted to center field in Miller's place, and Caitlin Monnahan, a catcher primarily, earned the start in right field.

However, nothing would stop the Cougars on Thursday once they got things started in the fourth, as they added one more run in the fifth on A.I.I. Conference Player of the Year Alyssa Dronenburg's 20th homerun of the season. Dronenburg went 3-for-4 with three RBI's and two runs scored on the afternoon.  San Marcos picked up 3 more runs in the sixth to secure the mercy rule victory.

CSUSM (51-4)moves to 1-0 in pool play, and will play again Friday against the University of Mobile, who lost 6-1 to Southern Nazarene earlier in the day. The game will take place at 8:00 am PST. The Cougars will have to win the pool of four to move on to the bracket round with the eight remaining teams.
