The #2 ranked Cal State San Marcos Softball team advanced to final eight in their quest for a NAIA National Championship with a 7-3 win over #15 Southern Nazarene Saturday afternoon in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Alex Miller's two out, 2 RBI single gave the Cougars their first lead, a lead they would not relinquish. Miller, playing shortstop at nationals for the first time all season, has been clutch at the plate lately as she knocked a two-out, 2 RBI single in Friday's game to win the game for CSUSM in extra innings.
San Marcos added five insurance runs in the top of the sixth, batting around in the inning to make the score 7-1. Southern Nazarene made an attempt to get back in the game with two runs in the bottom half of the sixth, but
Cortney Allen shut down any type of rally in the 7
th with a 1-2-3 inning to secure the win and advance the Cougars to the final eight.
Allen (23-4), allowed 3 runs on just 2 hits in the complete game victory, striking out 4 batters.
CSUSM (53-4) will begin double elimination bracket play on Monday with a game against Shorter (GA) at 8:00 AM Pacific Standard Time, or 10:00 am local.
