MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Panos Kotselas and
Erik Mueller of the Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team have been named 2013 NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athletes, it was announced Friday.
In order to qualify for the award, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status at his current institution.
Kotselas and Mueller become just the second and third CSUSM player to earn the award in back-to-back seasons. Kane Leonard previously won the award in 2010 and 2011.
Kotselas, a senior defender from San Diego, appeared at left defender in 11 games this season and played a role in six wins. He holds a 3.78 cumulative GPA in Global Business Management and a minor in Spanish.
Mueller, a senior defender from Newbury Park, redshirted the 2013 season after sustaining an injury late in the 2012 campaign. He has a 3.89 GPA while majoring in Business and minoring in German.
The CSUSM men's soccer team finished the season 11-4-2 overall, its most wins since 2010. The Cougars were included in the NAIA Top 25 for the first time in the program's eight-year history and six players were named all-conference.
