Complete All-America Teams
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Scott Rice of the Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team has been named 2013 NAIA All-America Honorable Mention, it was announced Monday.
He becomes the fourth player in CSUSM's eight-year program history to be honored with the NAIA Honorable Mention distinction, joining Ben Crouse (2006), Brandon Zuniga (2009) and Jake Kaiser (2011).
Rice started all 16 of his appearances in the central midfield and captained the Cougars to an 11-4-2 overall record, their most wins since 2010.
Rice finished the year with three goals and a pair of assists for a total of eight points, third-most on the squad. He was named to the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) First Team for the first time in his career.
He scored two goals in a 3-2 win over Great Falls on September 14, coming through with the game-winner 34 seconds into the first overtime period. Rice's other game-winner came in a 1-0 victory over Westmont College on September 24.
The junior from Yorba Linda is currently tied for second on CSUSM's all-time points list with 32, 17 behind leader Bradley Seidenglanz (2006-07, 2009-10). His 14 career goals are second most in CSUSM history, five behind Seidenglanz.
The Cougars will graduate just two seniors from this year's squad and are primed for a strong 2014 campaign. CSUSM went unbeaten in their first nine games of 2013 and finished the regular season by winning four of its last five.
Georgia Gwinnett eliminated CSUSM in the A.I.I. Conference semifinals on Nov. 15, 2-1.
