LA MIRADA, Calif. –The No. 22 Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 (2nOT) draw with No. 9 Biola on Thursday night at Al Barbour Field.
The Eagles outshot the Cougars 24-7 in the match, but a resilient CSUSM defense helped the Cougars earn a point against a top-10 NAIA opponent.
"They had us on the ropes in the second half, but our defense put in an unbelievable blue-collar effort. I'm very proud of that," said CSUSM head coach Ron Pulvers. "They showed some true character tonight, after our game a couple of days ago."
Coach Pulvers was referring to CSUSM's only loss of the season, a 1-0 decision at San Diego Christian on Tuesday, in which the Cougars were reduced to nine men by the end of the game. Even though the Cougars were without two of their top-three goal scorers, Eric Lopez and Diego Fontes, the CSUSM defense held steadfast and helped the team earn a favorable result.
CSUSM moves to 5-1-1 overall while Biola remains unbeaten at 6-0-1.
CSUSM will turn around to face The Master's College on Saturday, the third road game this week for CSUSM. The bout against TMC will be the Cougars' fifth in eight days.Â
