ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – Angel Mora and Eric Lopez scored to help the Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Soka University on Saturday evening.
The win moves CSUSM to 3-0 overall on the young season, marking the first time the team has been 3-0 since 2010. In addition, the Cougars have recorded three straight shutouts to start the year, a program first.
"We were pretty good today," said CSUSM head coach Ron Pulvers. "Our defending was good and we improved greatly on the transition defense. We got it done today. It was much better."
After Scott Rice was taken down in the box, Mora placed a penalty kick confidently into the corner to make it 1-0 in the 12th minute.
CSUSM added an insurance goal in the 53rd minute, as Lopez forced himself through the SUA defense before placing a shot past Danny Smyth.
The Cougars have outscored opponents 10-0 on the season.
CSUSM travels to Las Vegas next week to face Rocky Mountain and Great Falls on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14 and 15, respectively.
