SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Kate Bouvatte of the women's cross country team and Angel Mora of the men's soccer team have been named the CSUSM Male and Female Student-Athlete of the Month, respectively, for September 2014.

Bouvatte, a senior from San Marcos, recorded two standout performances in her team's two races this month. She was the top collegiate finisher while leading No. 10 CSUSM to its fourth consecutive title at the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 13.

A week later, Bouvatte collected runner-up honors at Sept. 20's Mustang Challenge, as the Cougars placed second behind only NCAA Division I opponent Sacramento State.

Mora, a senior midfielder from Lake Elsinore, had a September to remember. He recorded a total of six assists in CSUSM's eight matches, and is now only one assist away from tying CSUSM's single-season record with seven contests remaining in the regular season.

He was named NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 23 after notching five assists in a three-game span between Sept. 17-21. He is currently ranked ninth in the NAIA for assists.

The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month are determined through a vote of all athletic department coaches, administrators and staff. Each program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
