Kaycee Gunion to Be Inducted into CSUSM Athletics Hall of Fame

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that Kaycee Gunion will be inducted as the seventh member of the CSUSM Athletics Hall of Fame.

Gunion, the starting goalkeeper for the CSUSM women's soccer team between 2008 and 2011, will be honored as a part of the 5th Annual Student-Athlete Awards and Hall of Fame Celebration on April 17th at the brand-new University Student Union (5:30 p.m. - 8:15 p.m.).

Over four seasons at CSUSM, Gunion set school records with 187 saves and a 0.43 goals against average in 73 games played. She compiled a 41-12-14 overall record and played a part in 40 shutouts. In her final two seasons in Cougar blue, Gunion allowed just 11 goals and held a 0.315 goals against average.

Gunion owns the distinction of being the first CSUSM student-athlete to be named NAIA All-America in each of her four seasons on campus. She was an Honorable Mention selection as a freshman before being named to the Second Team for her sophomore and junior seasons. As a senior, Gunion became the women's soccer program's first-ever First Team All-American.

In addition, Gunion was a four-time All-Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) first-teamer and was selected twice as the A.I.I. Player of the Year.  She was a two-time NSCAA??All-American and two-time West Region Team honoree.

Gunion got the job done in the classroom, as well. She graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Kinesiology from CSUSM in 2012. A two-time NAIA-Daktronics Scholar Athlete, Gunion was a NAIA Academic All-American in 2010 and a NSCAA Scholar All-American in 2011.  She is currently continuing her studies at San Diego State, where she is in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.

Last August, Gunion helped the San Diego SeaLions to their first Women's Premier League Soccer title since 2000. The Helix High School alum from Santee posted an undefeated season in between the pipes that included six league shutouts and eight overall. Gunion was named All-WPSL, WPSL West Region Goalkeeper of the Year and to the 2013 National Championship Best XI.
