CSUSM Posts Final Marks at Oxy Invite, NAIA National Championships Up Next

Final Results

LOS ANGELES - The Cal State San Marcos men's and women's track & field teams had their final tune-up of the regular season at the Oxy Invitational.

The women were led by Kate Bouvatte, who ran a personal-best time of 16:48.40 in the 5000m, placing fourth overall.  She now has the third-fastest 5000m time in the NAIA behind Maria Bernard of British Columbia and Hannah Helker of Oklahoma Baptist. The school record for the 5000m is 16:39.92 by Suzanne Cornwell.

Amber Rosario took down her seasonal-best by .04 seconds running 14.36 in the 100m hurdles, placing fourth overall. In the same event, Brittany Hollie placed sixth overall with a time of 15.18.

In the 4X100m relay, the team of Savanna Holmen, Kamarria Rehn, Hollie, and Rosario improved their time to 47.43 seconds, placing second overall in the process.

Heidi Swanson, who has already qualified for the NAIA National Championships and holds the school record holder in the 1500m, ran 4:38.07 in her marquee event.
Brianna Gibas narrowly missed the "B" standard by running 57.49 in the 400m; the "B" standard is set at 57.36 seconds.

Charlotte Kuzminsky and Michelle Cruz almost rewrote the record books in the 800m as they both dipped under the "A" standard, running 2:12.61 and 2:13.00, respectively. The school record for the 800m is 2:12.49 by Bongabih Shey.

The 4X400m relay team of Gibas, Kuzminski, Cruz, and Rosario improved their time by over two seconds running 3:47.60 and placing second overall.

In the pole vault, Calah Ayer took second place, clearing a height of 3.60 meters or 11 feet 8.75 inches.

On the men's side, Zachery Laurenzana and Steven Ing were both able to capture "B" standards in the 1500m, running 3:55.80 and 3:56.09, respectively.

Freshman Justin Washington was also able to get under the "B" standard in the 800m, as he ran 1:53.82.

The men's 4X400m relay team of Nguyen Pham, Chung Pham, Hector Collazo, and Damon Moore were also able to get a "B" standard performance as they took third place with a time of 3:16.55.

Western Nelson, who already has an "A" standard in the 5000m, ran 14:43.90 in the same event.

The next event for the Cougars will be the season finale, the NAIA National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala., May 22-24
