CSUSM Ranked 15th in NAIA Preseason Top 25

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team will enter the 2014 regular season ranked No. 15 in the NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll.

The Cougars received 305 points in the poll, sliding one position from its final No. 14 listing in 2013. Defending national champion Concordia (Ore.) took the No. 1 spot, followed by No. 2 Westmont and No. 3 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.).

The Cougars have been ranked in the top-20 of the preseason coaches' poll for six-consecutive seasons since 2009.

Last season, CSUSM won the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) conference championship and advanced to the NAIA quarterfinals on its way to a 12-6-1 campaign. The Cougars upset current-No. 18 The Master's College in the NAIA Opening Round before falling to current-No. 4 Northwood (Fla.).

CSUSM women's soccer will be under new leadership for the first time in program history, as Bobby Renneisen took over the head -coaching duties from longtime coach Ron Pulvers in the offseason. Pulvers is now exclusively the head men's soccer coach after spending his first eight seasons as leader of both programs. Renneisen had been assisting both teams since the programs' inception in 2006.

CSUSM opens play this weekend, Sunday, August 24 at Mangrum Soccer Field against Eastern Oregon.
