KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Angel Mora of the Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team has been named the NAIA National Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday.

Mora, a senior midfielder from Lake Elsinore, assisted on five of the Cougars' six goals last week, as they went 2-1 against three nationally-ranked opponents. He is also the first CSUSM player to be named NAIA Offensive Player of the Week in CSUSM program history, according to the NAIA's national records database, NAIAhonors.com.

"Angel is a terrific playmaker who is an excellent passer of the ball and has great imagination," said CSUSM head coach Ron Pulvers. "He has been instrumental in our ability to attack the final third as he is both a provider and finisher. This is a tremendous honor for Angel and our program."

Mora assisted on the first goal and the game-winner in CSUSM's 3-2 road victory over then-No. 10 Concordia (Calif.) on Sept. 17. He then helped the Cougars defeat consecutive ranked opponents for the first time in program history when he assisted on the game's only goal in a 1-0 win over then-No. 24 Biola on Sept. 20.

The following day, then-No. 23 Rocky Mountain (Mont.) upended the Cougars at home; however, Mora provided two passes that led to both of CSUSM's goals in the 3-2 loss.

Mora currently is ranked sixth in the NAIA with six assists on the season. He needs one more to tie the CSUSM single-season record of seven, which Alex Brunsell set in 2012.

CSUSM also learned today that it received the 27th-most points in the first NAIA national coaches' poll, missing the top-25 by 47 points.  The Cougars are off to a 6-3 start and will face Menlo in their next match on Oct. 3 in Atherton.
