KANSAS, CITY, Mo. – Heather Thompson made Cal State San Marcos history last season when she was selected as the school's first women's basketball player on the NAIA Division I All-America team. Now she's done it again, the national office announced Wednesday.
 
Thompson, a 5-foot-11 senior forward from Escondido, Calif., was once again named to the honorable mention squad.
 
"I am thrilled that Heather is being recognized nationally for another successful season," said interim head coach Crystal Harris. "This is an honor well deserved for a talented player and even more worthy person."
 
She averaged team-highs of 13.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per game for the Cougars, who made their second consecutive appearance in the NAIA Division I National Championship and finished the season with a 16-16 overall record.
 
Thompson was named Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Most Outstanding Player after leading the Cougars to their second straight A.I.I. Conference Championship. She received all-conference honors for a third time in her career after being named to the first team this season. 
 
Thompson ranks in the top-10 of NAIA Division I in four categories: No. 3 in defensive rebounds per game (7.3), No. 4 in blocked shots (70), No. 5 in blocked shots per game (2.2) and No. 10 in rebounds (297). She was the top rebounder and shot blocker in the A.I.I.
 
A starter in all 32 games, Thompson recorded 11 double-doubles, highlighted by an 18-point, 17-rebound performance in the opening game of the A.I.I. Conference Championships. In her third 21-point game of the year, she led the Cougars to a 57-56 win in overtime at NCAA Division II UC Santa Cruz to conclude the regular season.
 
Thompson wraps up her four-year campaign as the top rebounder and shot blocker in the career, season and single game record books for CSUSM.
