LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season on Thursday night against Biola, falling to the Eagles 2-1 at Al Barbour Field in non-conference play.
After
Dustin Scibilia brought the Cougars level in the 54
th minute with his first goal of the season, Kousei Mattox scored what would become the game-winner less than 10 minutes later.
The Cougars drop to 1-1-1 overall while Biola improves to 4-1.
Leonardo Contreras scored in the 22
nd minute to put BU ahead, dribbling past a series of defenders before finding the corner of the net.
Scibilia evened it just after halftime, pounding home a rebound after a BU defender misplayed a Cougar long ball.
Moments later,
Landon Sherwood made a save on Jarrett Pugh's header, but Mattox was there to punch the rebound in for the last laugh.
Sherwood made six saves on the night.
Zach Olow placed two of his three shots on-frame.
CSUSM faces San Diego Christian on the road this Saturday in its final tune-up before California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play begins at home next Friday, Sept. 18 against Cal State San Bernardino.
