SAN MARCOS, Calif. – A 31-point surge in the fourth quarter lifted the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball to a 77-72 victory over Montana State Billings in the #CSUSMHoops Classic finale on Saturday night at The Sports Center.
 
"I'm really proud of our effort tonight," said CSUSM head coach Renee Jimenez. "We didn't do everything perfectly but we stuck with it and finished the game really well. Our goal is to get a little better everyday and I thought we did that tonight."
 
The Cougars improve to 1-1 on the season as the Yellowjackets fall to 0-2.
 
Junior Raegan Lillie and Savannah Camp each registered 15 points. Senior Ashley Jenkins chipped in 14 points, seven assists and three steals. Senior Dee Armenta added 12 points.
 
The Cougars outscored the Yellowjackets 31-22 in the final quarter after losing the battle in the first two quarters, 16-14. The third quarter was a draw at 18-18.
 
MSUB's Tianna Hanson led all scorers with 24 points.
 
The Cougars begin California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference play next week, traveling to Humboldt State on Thursday.
