Frederik Jahr won in dramatic fashion to cap off a successful Saturday for the Cal State San Marcos women's and men's track & field teams at the Cal State L.A. Invitational.
On the day, 15 Cougars posted qualifying marks for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) track & field championships. There are now 18 student-athletes who have registered qualifying marks.
Warren won the 3000m with a time of 8:19.87, besting the previous school record by 6.47 seconds (Campfield, 2010). It is the second straight meet in which Warren has been part of a record-setting day, having run the anchor leg of the DMR at last week's
Rossi Relays.
Jahr took top honors in the high jump with a leap of 1.95m. The mark tied with two others for first, but Jahr won a jumpoff with a clearance of over 2.0m.
Justin Washington (1:55.57) and
Fereon Meferia (1:56.22) finished second and third, respectively, in the 800m to qualify for CCAA championships.
In the women's 800m,
Charlotte Kuzminsky finished third with a qualifying time of 2:19.75.
Jasmine Williams finished 10th in the long jump with a mark of 4.93m. It is the second event Williams has qualified in having already reached the standard in the 100-meter hurdles.
Natalie Rodriguez qualified for CCAA championships in the 1500m, placing 10th with a time of 4:47.60.
Tina Girolamo just missed the qualifying mark of 4:55, finishing in 20th with a time of 4:55.35.
Lauren Wyckoff finished second in her heat and 13th overall in the 400m with a qualifying time of 59.84.
Michelle Fekete qualified in the triple jump, finishing ninth with a mark of 10.81m.
Rachel Brady placed fifth in the 3000m with a PR of 10:32.12.
The women's 4x400m relay of
Jasmine Williams, Kuzminsky, Wyckoff and Rodriguez finished second with a time of 4:06.73.
On the men's side,
Kyle Johnson finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.98, a new personal best.
Bryce Johnson placed eighth and also ran a new personal best of 15.70 in the event, improving upon the qualifying time a registered at last week's Rossi Relays.
Burtland Dixon qualified in the 100m finishing 12th with a time of 11.12.
In the 1500m, three Cougars,
Alex Gronotte (4:05.91),Caesar Castillo (4:07.29) and freshman Steven Terris (4:09.10), posted CCAA championship qualifying times. The trio of
Alex Gronotte (4:11.28),
Joe Gonzalez (4:11.72) and
Issac Vallejo (4:11.82) finished just shy of the 4:10 qualifying mark.
Joshrey Estelle improved upon his previous long jump qualifying mark, leaping a personal best 6.47m and finishing 10th overall.
CSUSM will compete in two events next week. On Friday, March 11 the distance squads will return to Los Angeles to participate in the
Oxy Distance Carnival at Occidental College. The rest of the women's and men's teams will compete in the
San Diego Collegiate Challenge at UC San Diego on Saturday, March 12.
