IRVINE, Calif. – Charlotte Kuzminsky and
Natalie Rodriguez set new CSUSM records at the adidas/
Steve Scott Invitational on Saturday, the final regular season competition of the year for the Cal State San Marcos women's and men's track & field teams.
Kuzminsky, Rodriguez and
Elizabeth Buckle posted NCAA Division II provisional qualifiers on the second day of competition at the namesake event for CSUSM head coach
Steve Scott.
With an 800m personal-best of 2:11.25, Kuzminsky outdid the 11-year-old CSUSM record by 1.24 seconds (Bonghaih Shey, 2005). The senior from San Diego also holds school records in the outdoor 1000m (2:55.97, 2015), indoor 1000m (2:53.98, 2015) and is part of the record-holding indoor and outdoor DMR and 4x800m relay squads. The 800m mark is the fifth-fastest in the CCAA this year.
Rodriguez crossed the line in the 1500m at 4:31.75 to break the previous record by 2.15 seconds (Heidi Swanson, 2014) and best her previous PR by four seconds. The time is the fifth-fastest in the CCAA this year. Rodriguez also holds a school record as a member of the outdoor 4x800m relay squad and has now achieved the NCAA DII provisional qualifier in two events (5000m).
Four Cougars have registered NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks and 43 student-athletes have achieved California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) championship qualifiers.
Buckle also set an 800m PR, clocking a time of 2:13.07 to meet the NCAA DII provisional standard. It is the third-straight time Buckle has posted a personal-best performance in the event. Kuzminsky and Buckle join Rodriguez and
Raelyn Werley (5000m, 10K) in reaching NCAA DII provisional qualifiers this season.
Lauren Wyckoff ran a 100m PR of 12.70 to qualify for CCAA championships in the event. The freshman previously qualified in the 200m and 400m. Wyckoff also notched a PR in the 200m with a time of 25.65.
Frederik Jahr leaped 2.0m in the men's high jump to tie for second place, the fourth time Jahr has placed in the top two this season.
The men's 4x400m relay of
Fereon Meferia,
Justin Washington,
Trelani Waters and
Matt Doyle finished third overall with a time of 3:22.77.
In Friday's action,
Josh Maffei qualified for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) championships in the javelin with a season-best throw of 47.84m. Maffei is now qualified in three events, having previously qualified in the discus and shot put.
