SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Behind a single-match team record 19 total blocks, the Cal State San Marcos volleyball team recorded a five-set California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory over Cal State San Bernardino on Friday night at The Sports Center. Final scores were 25-19, 25-20, 24-26, 20-25 and 15-9
With the win, the Cougars (10-7, 7-2 CCAA) moved into second place in the CCAA South Division standings. The Coyotes (11-7, 7-3 CCAA) fall to No. 3 in the south.
Junior
Faith Fortuné and sophomore
Maddy Newcombe each had a career-best nine total blocks in the middle. Sophomore outside hitter
Madi Anderson added six blocks in addition to her 16 kills. Junior outside hitter
Courtney Hulla tallied a career-best 20 kills in the match.
Freshman libero
Grecia Cordero-Barr collected 28 digs. Both setters tallied double-doubles for CSUSM with sophomore
Aleese Wheaton finishing with 27 assists and 15 digs while junior
Lauren Lee notched 25 assists and 12 digs. Cordero-Barr recorded three aces and junior
Haley Montgomery chipped in two aces.
CSUSB's Lauren Nicholson finished the night with 15 kills and 21 digs.
The Cougars conclude their three-match week against Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday at 7 p.m. in The Sports Center.
