ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Friday that
Erik Mueller and
Panos Kotselas of the Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team have been named 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Men's Soccer Scholar-Athletes.
In order to qualify for the award, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status at her current institution. For a complete list of honorees, click

Kotselas and Mueller become the fourth and fifth Cougars in program history to earn the NAIA Scholar-Athlete award, joining
Kane Leonard (2011, 2010), Martin Suarez (2010) and Troy Skomra (2008).
Mueller, a junior defender from Newbury Park, holds a 3.88 GPA as a Business major with a minor in German. He was also named
CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District on Nov. 1. The Cougars' team captain, Mueller started all 12 games in which he appeared on the backline before an ankle injury cut his season short on Oct. 19.
Kotselas started every game of 2012 at left back for CSUSM and logged an assist on Oct. 23 in a 2-0 win over SOKA University. A junior from San Diego, Kotselas posted a 3.8 GPA in Global Business Management while minoring in Spanish.
