NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll – No 2.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team received its first ranking in program history when the national office announced the Cougars as No. 22 in the NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll released Tuesday.
CSUSM received 147 total points in the poll and is tied with Auburn Montgomery (Ala.).
After receiving 21 votes in the first regular-season top 25 released on Sept. 10, the Cougars jumped into the rankings with a pair of wins in Las Vegas over the weekend. CSUSM downed Great Falls in overtime on Saturday, 3-2, before topping then-No. 22 Rocky Mountain, 4-2, on Sunday.
The victory over RMC was the Cougars' first versus a ranked opponent since 2010.
The Cougars are off to a record 5-0 start, the most wins to start a season and the second-longest winning streak in program history. CSUSM has outscored its opponents 17-4 thus far and has three shutouts to their credit.
Hastings (Neb.) took the No. 1 spot with 549 total points and a 6-0 overall mark. Southern Poly (Ga.) and Benedictine (Kan.) round out the top three with 546 points and 527 points, respectively.
CSUSM faces a tough tilt on Thursday at No. 9 Biola, which received 384 total points on the heels of a 5-0 start. CSUSM and BU are the only California schools in the current top 25.
